Biography

Daniel Overly is a postdoctoral resident scholar and visiting assistant professor of music in chamber and collaborative music at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

In addition to his position with the Jacobs School, pianist Daniel Overly serves as staff pianist at the Aspen Music Festival and School. He previously held the position of collaborative piano fellow at the Yale School of Music and rehearsal pianist and musical assistant for the Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus. There, he participated in the preparation of Bach’s St. John Passion, Brahms’ Requiem, Duruflé’s Requiem, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, Poulenc’s Gloria, Stravinsky’s Threni, and Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten.

The recipient of a Fulbright grant to Austria, he studied song interpretation with Carolyn Hague, Angelika Kirchschlager, and Birgid Steinberger at the Vienna Conservatory, and opera coaching with David Aronson and Kristin Okerlund of the Wiener Staatsoper. Also an avid chamber musician, Overly studied instrumental collaboration at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Anita Pontremoli. Overly has participated in the Britten-Pears Young Artist Program, Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar, Franz-Schubert-Institut, Oxford Lieder Festival, and Tanglewood Music Center as the Leonard Bernstein Fellow.
