Widely respected bassist Jeremy Allen has been appointed assistant professor at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Department of Jazz Studies, beginning Fall 2008. He has served as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Jazz Studies at the Jacobs School since 2006.   Full Story

Indiana University's Opera Theater kicks off its fall season, the first production in the 60th anniversary season and the 400th overall production, with Giuseppe Verdi's widely loved -- and once scandalous -- cross-class romance La Traviata. The opera is staged by noted director Tito Capobianco, a well-known, colorful figure who spent years working with Luciano Pavarotti and was general manager and artistic director of the prestigious Pittsburgh Opera.   Full Story

The Indiana University Marching Hundred will be the first college marching band to perform at the new Lucas Oil Stadium when the Indianapolis Colts play their first regular season game this Sunday (Sept. 7) at 8:15 p.m. on national television. The Board of Trustees of Indiana University has selected the architects for the internationally acclaimed Jacobs School of Music's new North Studio Building. The building is funded by a $44 million gift from the Lilly Endowment. The North Studio Building, to be built north of the current Music Building Addition (also known as "the round building") on Third Street, will be designed by Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf (BDMD) Architects of Indianapolis and Flad Architects of Madison, Wis. It will accommodate faculty teaching studios as well as music practice rooms, classrooms, offices, rehearsal rooms and graduate student spaces.   Full Story

Maureen McGovern's 35-year career includes recordings, concerts, Broadway, theater, films, television, radio and composing, all with a voice that defies categorization.
