Bassist Jeremy Allen appointed to IU Jacobs School of Music faculty
Widely respected bassist Jeremy Allen has been appointed assistant professor at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Department of Jazz Studies, beginning Fall 2008. He has served as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Jazz Studies at the Jacobs School since 2006.

IU Opera Theater launches 60th anniversary season with 19th-century love story "La Traviata"
Indiana University's Opera Theater kicks off its fall season, the first production in the 60th anniversary season and the 400th overall production, with Giuseppe Verdi's widely loved -- and once scandalous -- cross-class romance La Traviata. The opera is staged by noted director Tito Capobianco, a well-known, colorful figure who spent years working with Luciano Pavarotti and was general manager and artistic director of the prestigious Pittsburgh Opera.

IU Marching Hundred featured at Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday during Colts game
The Indiana University Marching Hundred will be the first college marching band to perform at the new Lucas Oil Stadium when the Indianapolis Colts play their first regular season game this Sunday (Sept. 7) at 8:15 p.m. on national television. The band will take the field during the Colts season opener against the Chicago Bears.

IU Jacobs School announces architects for new $44 million building
The Board of Trustees of Indiana University has selected the architects for the internationally acclaimed Jacobs School of Music's new North Studio Building. The building is funded by a $44 million gift from the Lilly Endowment. The North Studio Building, to be built north of the current Music Building Addition (also known as "the round building") on Third Street, will be designed by Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf (BDMD) Architects of Indianapolis and Flad Architects of Madison, Wis. It will accommodate faculty teaching studios as well as music practice rooms, classrooms, offices, rehearsal rooms and graduate student spaces.

Joshua Bell and Leonard Slatkin help open IU Jacobs School of Music 2008-09 season in September
The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music continues to nurture and present the world's greatest musicians. With four new IU Opera and Ballet Theater productions, in addition to the usual hundreds of other performances, the Jacobs School offers another ambitious season in 2008-09. Two internationally distinguished Jacobs faculty talents join forces to kick off the orchestral season on Sept. 17 as Leonard Slatkin conducts the IU Philharmonic Orchestra and violinist Joshua Bell at 8 p.m. in the IU Auditorium.

Maureen McGovern sings and swings during final weekend of Summer Festival
Maureen McGovern's 35-year career includes recordings, concerts, Broadway, theater, films, television, radio and composing, all with a voice that defies categorization. Her collaborations with Indiana University Professor Steve Houghton, faculty and students from the IU Jacobs School of Music and regional professionals will include a hard-swinging big band, followed by a studio orchestra playing the beautiful sounds of the Great American Songbook at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, in the Musical Arts Center, as the IU Summer Music Festival draws to a close.

IU’s 2008 Summer Music Festival welcomes Canadian Brass and Chanticleer
