IU Jacobs School of Music appoints new associate director of Band

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music announced today (April 10) that Jeffrey Gershman has been named Associate Professor of Music and Associate Director of Bands/Wind Conducting. He will join the Jacobs School faculty at the beginning of the fall semester.   Full Story

IU ballet at the BCT focuses on choreography

Continuing its ongoing partnership with the community, the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music presents the annual "Ballet at the BCT: The Choreography Project" at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater in downtown Bloomington on April 15-16 at 8 p.m. Presented by the IU Department of Ballet, the workshop will feature 13 new works choreographed and danced by its ballet majors.   Full Story

2008 Big Band Extravaganza at IU features Delores King Williams and Everett Greene

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music will host its annual Big Band Extravaganza, featuring IU jazzmen David N. Baker and Pat Harbison, on Saturday, April 19, at 8 p.m. in the Musical Arts Center. The Big Band Extravaganza merges two outstanding jazz ensembles of student performers trained by Baker and Harbison. This year's concert, "It Don't Mean a Thing . . . If It Ain't Got That Swing," will present masterpieces of the swing era and guest performances by vocalists Delores King Williams and Everett Greene.   Full Story

IU Opera Theater celebrates 60th anniversary

Sixty years ago, the first Indiana University Opera Theater production took place in an auditorium that was built as part of an army barracks during World War II. This weekend (April 4-5), IU Opera begins celebrating its 60th anniversary with a reprise of that same opera, Les Contes d'Hoffmann -- except now it will be performed on a stage that rivals New York City's Metropolitan Opera House.   Full Story

The IU opera "Les Contes d'Hoffmann" spins a tale of love lost and inspiration found

Fantastical tales of love lost and inspiration found will delight Indiana University Opera Theater audiences April 4, 5, 11 and 12 at the Musical Arts Center. Jacques Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann depicts a writer's romantic adventures as he searches for his true love and ultimately finds fulfillment in his artistic calling.   Full Story
