Collection of rare harps finds its home at the IU Jacobs School of Music
The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music is now home to a collection of six harps dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. Among these classic instruments is one that Marie Antoinette, former queen of France, played during the 18th century.

$69 million Lilly gift to increase excellence of law, music schools
Indiana University President Michael McRobbie announced today (Dec. 12) that Lilly Endowment is giving the IU Foundation two major gifts, totaling $69 million, to secure the international standing of the IU Jacobs School of Music, provide its world-class music faculty and students with a state-of-the-art studio facility and propel the IU School of Law-Bloomington to the upper echelon of public university law schools.

Three Jacobs School alumni make Carnegie Hall debut
When the New York Youth Symphony opens its 45th anniversary season at Carnegie Hall on Dec. 9 at 2 p.m., it will unintentionally host a Hoosier theme. Three of the major contributors to the performance -- the conductor, Ryan McAdams; solo violinist, William Harvey; and composer, Clint Needham -- are Indiana University graduates making their Carnegie Hall debuts.

Jacobs School appoints Townsend Plant director of admissions and financial aid
The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music welcomes Townsend Plant as its new director of admissions and financial aid, beginning June 1, 2008. An accomplished classical guitarist, Plant has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician. He is a founding member of the Classical Guitar Society of Upstate New York and founding director of the D'Addario classical Guitar Competition at Ithaca College.

Harvey Phillips, the "Paganini of the tuba," honored by Classical Music Hall of Fame
Harvey Phillips, tuba virtuoso and distinguished professor emeritus at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, has added another honor to one of the most remarkable careers in modern American musical history. He has become the first brass player chosen for induction into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame.
