Menahem Pressler honored by the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance
Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Distinguished Professor Menahem Pressler will be appointed as an Honorary Fellow of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.The title "Honorary Fellow" is bestowed by the academy upon artists whose exceptional contribution to the fields of music and dance has influenced artistic expression in Israel and throughout the world. Beginning this June, on the academy's 75th anniversary, the world-renowned pianist will accept the position for one year.

IU Jacobs School of Music welcomes John Tafoya and Kevin Bobo
This fall, two top-flight percussionists will join the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Percussion Department's already formidable faculty ranks. Jacobs alumnus John Tafoya, principal timpanist for the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., since 1999 and director of percussion studies at the University of Maryland School of Music, will become professor of music, pending approval by IU trustees. Kevin Bobo, assistant professor of percussion at the University of Kansas at Lawrence since 2003, has been appointed associate professor of music.

2007 BLEMF presents world-class performances and educational offerings
Now in its fourteenth year, the Bloomington Early Music Festival (BLEMF), an annual celebration of music from Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical times, will take place May 18-28 at a variety of venues in the Bloomington community, including two performance spaces on the Indiana University Bloomington campus.

Composer David Dzubay receives Guggenheim Fellowship
The Jacobs School of Music congratulates Professor David Dzubay, composer and chair of the composition department, who was recently named a 2007 Guggenheim Fellow. The prestigious award is one of the most affirming research awards worldwide for artists, humanists, and scientists.

Auer Hall organ transformation to begin
The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music announced today (May 4) that it is in the final stages of negotiations with C. B. Fisk, Inc. of Gloucester, Mass., to build its pipe organ in Auer Concert Hall. With almost 4,000 pipes the instrument -- originally conceived by organ builder Manuel Rosales -- will be transformed into a Fisk organ, Opus 135, and is expected to debut in the fall of 2010, the year the school turns 100.

Joshua Bell to join IU Jacobs School of Music faculty

IU Jacobs School of Music honors centenarian employee Helen Clouse
What becomes a legend most? How about prime real estate in the heart of the Indiana University campus? Today (May 1) at 10 a.m., the Jacobs School of Music will dedicate the "Helen Clouse Plaza." in front of the Music Practice Building on Third Street, between Ballantine and Hawthorne. Clouse, who has assisted IU music students since 1960, turns 100 today.

Composer Claude Baker receives two major IU distinctions
IU Jacobs School of Music Professor of Composition Claude Baker has received two of Indiana University's most distinguished accolades. This spring, Baker was appointed to the rank of Chancellor's Professor and, this fall, he will receive the Indiana University 2007 Tracey M. Sonneborn Award.
