David Baker receives jazz living legend award at Kennedy Center
An Indiana University professor from the Jacobs School of Music was recenetly recognized as a living legend among jazz artists. IU Jacobs School of Music's Distinguished Professor David N. Baker was among those included in the roster of musicians who received their "Living Jazz Legend Award" for lifetime achievement. The award is one of many accolades Baker has received in his extraordinary career.

IU wind ensemble to be featured at national college wind band convention
The Indiana University Wind Ensemble, directed and conducted by Stephen W. Pratt, has been invited to perform the opening concert of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), March 28, in Ann Arbor, Mich. The ensemble was selected following a rigorous screening process by a distinguished panel of musicians. Joining Pratt on the podium will be Jacobs wind conducting faculty members Paul Popiel, Scott Weiss and David Woodley.

College premiere of Bolcom's "A Wedding" marks season of firsts for IU Opera and Ballet Theater
Indiana University Opera and Ballet Theater, which has staged a number of world premiere performances in recent years, will add to its list of firsts during its 2007-2008 season, announced today (March 5). The upcoming season at the IU Jacobs School of Music features the nation's first collegiate performance of the opera A Wedding by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer William Bolcom, who has commissioned IU Opera Theater for two previous collegiate premieres.

Informatics Philharmonic: Beethoven, Sibelius and Music Plus One
Begin with violinists, bring in a computerized musical accompaniment program, and it all adds up to a unique blend of classical music. Christopher Raphael, associate professor at the Indiana University School of Informatics, will share center stage with Mimi Zweig, professor at the Jacobs School of Music.
