IU Jacobs School of Music hopes to make noise at Grammy Awards
Move over Mary J. Blige and Justin Timberlake. Step aside Red Hot Chili Peppers. Some red hot musicians from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music are ready to crash the Grammy Awards. With one legendary faculty member and a host of alums competing, the school will be heavily represented at the annual awards ceremony, to be held on Feb. 11.

Denk plus Orpheus equals Fabulous
Jacobs alumnus Jeremy Denk, MM'93, whose piano playing has been described as "effortlessly virtuosic and utterly joyous" by the New York Times, will return to Bloomington this Sunday, December 3, when he joins the acclaimed Orpheus Chamber Orchestra as soloist at 8pm in the IU Auditorium.

Jacobs School welcomes horn virtuoso Jeff Nelsen to its faculty

Dean Wennerstrom Receives National Prize for Lifetime Achievement
The IU Jacobs School of Music congratulates Associate Dean for Instruction Mary Wennerstrom, who has received the internationally significant Gail Boyd de Stowolinski Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Music Theory Teaching and Scholarship. The award was announced at the Society for Music Theory's annual conference in Los Angeles on Friday, November 3, 2006.

IU Philharmonic continues Moveable Feast of the Arts tradition
The Indiana University Philharmonic Orchestra, the premier orchestral ensemble of the IU Jacobs School of Music, continues IU's Moveable Feast of the Arts series next month at the historic Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne, Ind., with a performance that features recently appointed faculty violinist Alexander Kerr. The concert will be held on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. and marks the second year of the Moveable Feast of the Arts initiative, which is designed to showcase the university's cultural resources to Hoosier communities and IU campuses across the state.

IU Jacobs School of Music launches inaugural podcast
The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music today (Nov. 7) continued its growing role as a leader in the emerging digital frontier with the announcement of its inaugural podcast. The audio and video project, found within the school's new "IUMusicLive" Web site (http://music.indiana.edu/iumusiclive), includes performances by violinist Joshua Bell, conductor Michael Stern and the Beaux Arts Trio, and showcases three recent IU Opera Theater productions.

Laredo and Robinson to solo with Indianapolis Symphony in Bloomington
Following its acclaimed performance last year, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will return to Bloomington in November with a program featuring Indiana University Jacobs School of Music faculty members Jaime Laredo and Sharon Robinson. Laredo (violin) and Robinson (cello) will perform the popular Double Concerto in A Minor by Johannes Brahms. The free offering on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 3 p.m. in the Musical Arts Center will be conducted by the ISO's Music Director Mario Venzago.

Lorna Dallas to come “Back Home Again” to Bloomington
Soprano Lorna Dallas, musical theater star and alumna of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, will give a free benefit performance of "The Great American Songbook" on Sunday (Nov. 5) at 3 p.m. in the IU Auditorium.
