Four Guggenheim fellowships go to Indiana University
Four of this year's Guggenheim Fellows are professors at Indiana University Bloomington. The election of IUB biologists Lynda Delph and Jeffrey Palmer, composer Don Freund and historian Michael Grossberg brings IU's total of Guggenheim Fellows to 117.

'Sky's the limit' for IU's latest Met Opera winner
Jordan Bisch, a 23-year-old student of Distinguished Professor Timothy Noble at the IU School of Music, was one of four grand prize winners in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions on Sunday (March 20). Bisch will receive $15,000. He is the School of Music's 33rd grand winner and fifth grand winner in the last five years.

Classic ballet 'Cinderella' gets a new look
The Indiana University Ballet Theater will debut a world premiere production of Cinderella on March 25 and 26 at the Musical Arts Center, the largest university performance stage in North America. The performances will feature all-new choreography, sets and costumes to accompany Sergei Prokofiev's score performed by students of the IU School of Music.

Two Faculty Members and Music Theory Student Recognized at IU Founders Day
Two IU School of Music faculty members - Miriam Fried and Violette Verdy - and one doctoral student - Victoria L. Malawey - are recognized for their outstanding teaching and research at the annual Indiana University Founders Day celebration on March 6 at 1 p.m. in Bloomington's Assembly Hall.

Violette Verdy
Violette Verdy is one of the premier ballet dancers of the twentieth century and has dedicated her post-performance life to training future generations of dancers. Her remarkable achievements as a dancer, teacher, and administrator in several of the world's foremost dance companies and ballet schools have garnered her international acclaim. Now, she is honored with IU's Distinguished Professor title.

Victoria Malawey
Certain words tend to recur in Victoria Malawey's end-of-semester evaluations. Enthusiastic. Dedicated. Organized. Inspirational. Or, as one student put it, "She works magic." Malawey is a recipient of IU's 2005 Lieber Memorial Teaching Associate Award.

Anniversary concert showcases African American composers
The IU African American Arts Institute, in collaboration with the IU School of Music and the Archives of African American Music and Culture, will present the musical concert, "Extensions of the Tradition," on Sunday, Feb. 27. In celebration of the African American Arts Institute's 30th anniversary year, the concert will feature works by composers who have present or past involvement with it.
