Georgina Joshi fellowships announced in the IU Jacobs School of Music
The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music has received a gift of $1 million from The Georgina Joshi Foundation, Inc. The gift establishes two major fellowships as a tribute to the memory of Georgina Joshi, a graduate student at the Jacobs School and an alumna of the Royal College of Music, London. Both fellowships will serve to celebrate Georgina's life as a singer and her affiliation with both institutions.

Singing Hoosiers present 'Celebration' spring concert
America's premier show choir, the Indiana University Singing Hoosiers, will perform its 59th annual spring concert, "A Celebration of American Popular Music," at IU Auditorium April 4 at 8 p.m. The vocal ensemble performs American popular music, jazz and Broadway favorites with dazzling choreography, energy and style.

IU Jacobs School of Music receives priceless Leonard Bernstein gift
Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music today (March 9) announced the receipt of an unprecedented gift from the family of Leonard Bernstein that contains the contents of Leonard Bernstein's Fairfield, Conn., composing studio, including a conducting stool from the Vienna Philharmonic that is said to have been used by Johannes Brahms.

Indianapolis Symphonic Choir honors Jacobs Dean Emeritus Charles H. Webb
The Indianapolis Symphonic Choir has honored Dean Emeritus Charles H. Webb as the inaugural recipient of the Elmer Steffen Founder's Award. The recognition is named in honor of Elmer Steffen who served as the first conductor of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir in 1937.

A new "Swan Lake" centerpiece of IU Ballet Theater's Spring Ballet

IU Opera Theater to present collegiate premiere of 'The Light in the Piazza' this summer
Continuing its tradition of offering operatic premieres, the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music announced today (Feb. 25) that it will present the collegiate premiere of the celebrated musical The Light in the Piazza (music and lyrics by Adam Guettel) in a brand-new production during the 2009 IU Summer Music Festival. Performance dates are July 31, Aug. 1, 7, and 8.

IU Jacobs School to compete in Met Auditions Grand Finals
Soprano and Indiana University Jacobs School of Music graduate student Kiri Dyan Deonarine has made it through to the Grand Finals of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the elite competition to identify the best young opera singers throughout the United States and Canada. Jacobs alumna Jessica Julin, a soprano who studied with Costanza Cuccaro, is also among the eight finalists.
