IU Opera presents 'Cinderella story' "Cendrillon"

IU Opera Theater presents a new production of Jules Massenet's Cendrillon (Cinderella), based on the original fairy tale, on Feb. 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 8 p.m. in Bloomington's Musical Arts Center. The production includes new set and costume designs by IU's C. David Higgins.   Full Story

IU Ballet Theater presents edgy new choreography at Buskirk-Chumley

Showcasing recent work by up-and-coming regional choreographers, Indiana University Ballet Theater will present "Ballet at the BCT: On the Edge" on Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater in downtown Bloomington. Two Jacobs School staff members receive IU merit awards

In a Dec. 15 ceremony, both of Indiana University's 2008 Professional Staff Merit Awards went to members of the Jacobs School of Music. David Villanueva, administrative director of choral ensembles, and Erin Woodley, an undergraduate advisor, were recognized by IU Bloomington Provost and Executive Vice President Karen Hanson in a reception in the Frangipani Room of the Indiana Memorial Union.   Full Story

Dec. 9 declared "Royce Deckard Day" in Bloomington

Royce Deckard, director of business and finance at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, received dual honors at a Dec. 9 "Legends" ceremony at Bloomington High School South. He received Indiana's Distinguished Hoosier Award for his 35 years of service to the sport of wrestling. Also, Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan had earlier declared Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, "Royce Deckard Day" in the city.   Full Story

Carving out a space for reed making

A much-needed reed-making room takes shape in the IU Jacobs School of Music and is named for Jerry Sirucek and Leonard Sharrow, legendary oboe and bassoon teachers who taught for decades.
