IU Marching Hundred featured at Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday during Colts game

The Indiana University Marching Hundred will be the first college marching band to perform at the new Lucas Oil Stadium when the Indianapolis Colts play their first regular season game this Sunday (Sept. 7) at 8:15 p.m. on national television. The band will take the field during the Colts season opener against the Chicago Bears.   Full Story

IU Wind Ensemble to perform at Music Educators National Conference

The Indiana University Wind Ensemble, conducted by Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Professor Stephen W. Pratt, will perform as a featured ensemble at the Music Educators National Conference in Milwaukee, Wis., April 12. Jacobs School Assistant Professor and saxophonist Otis Murphy will solo with the ensemble. Also represented at the conference are members of the IU Jacobs School of Music's Music Education Department, led by Department Chair Associate Professor Lissa May, who is current president of the Indiana Music Educators Association, the statewide chapter of the MENC.   Full Story

IU Jacobs School of Music appoints new associate director of Band

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music announced today (April 10) that Jeffrey Gershman has been named Associate Professor of Music and Associate Director of Bands/Wind Conducting. He will join the Jacobs School faculty at the beginning of the fall semester.   Full Story

Strike the pose! IU Marching Hundred named top college band

The Indiana University Marching Hundred has been named the recipient of the 2007 Sudler Intercollegiate Marching Band Trophy, the nation's highest and most coveted award for college and university marching bands. The award is often called the "Heisman Trophy" for college marching bands.   Full Story

Stephen W. Pratt, New Director of Bands

Following an extensive search to succeed long-time director and Wind Ensemble conductor Ray E. Cramer, Professor of Music Stephen W. Pratt has been named the new director of the Department of Bands. His appointment becomes effective in August 2005.   Full Story

2004 Summer Music Festival

School of Music's 2004 Summer Music Festival is set to present a spectacular array of opera, concerts, workshops, and talks. This year's substantial offering includes four major series: the IU Opera Theater presenting two lovely gems, the superb Symphonic Series directed by world-renowned conductors, the Chamber Music Series with some of the most impressive ensembles from around the country, and the Outdoor Band Concerts - always a community favorite. In addition to these events, the School of Music will host the ground-breaking Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, directed by IU's Distinguished Professor David Baker.   Full Story
