IU Jacobs School students present concert at Kennedy Center for Performing Arts

A group of talented young artists from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music will present a concert at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. The 6 p.m. performance in the Terrace Theater is free to the public and will be streamed on the web here.

IU Opera Theater presents 'Der Rosenkavalier' for first time in more than 40 years

When the curtain opens Feb. 24 at Bloomington's Musical Arts Center, audiences will witness the premiere of one of the largest productions to be mounted by Indiana University Opera Theater since 1966, the previous time it presented Richard Strauss's masterpiece "Der Rosenkavalier."

IU Opera presents British comedy ‘Albert Herring’ at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater

One does not usually think of British humor, the Buskirk-Chumley Theater and Indiana University Opera Theater in the same sentence. However, at 8 p.m. on Feb. 9 to 11 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 12, all three will align to create a unique entertainment experience in downtown Bloomington, with Benjamin Britten's popular comic opera "Albert Herring."

The streaming project provides an opportunity for anyone with a broadband Internet connection anywhere in the world to watch high-definition video of performances taking place on the Musical Arts Center stage.

IU Jacobs School of Music Wind Ensemble to perform at national convention in Indianapolis

The Indiana University Wind Ensemble, from the Jacobs School of Music, has been invited to perform at the 78th Annual Convention of the American Bandmasters Association. The concert will take place at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 1, in Clowes Memorial Hall on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis.

IU Cinema to host world premiere of silent film score written, conducted by Jacobs School of Music students

The world premiere of "The David Copperfield Project," a collaboration between IU Cinema and the Jacobs School of Music, will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4. The cinema commissioned IU sophomore Ari Fisher to score the 75-minute silent film, which will be performed by a 17-member student orchestra conducted by master's student Nicholas Hersh.

In remembrance of the revered civil rights leader and the principles he espoused, the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, in conjunction with the IU African American Arts Institute and the IU Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology, will present "Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr." on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 4 p.m. in Auer Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

IU Distinguished Professor of Jazz Studies David N. Baker to be honored in 80th birthday celebration

In honor of his 60-year career as a jazz musician and educator, the Jacobs School of Music will present the David Baker 80th Birthday Celebration at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, in Bloomington's Musical Arts Center. Admission is free but requires tickets, available from the MAC box office beginning Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Indiana University Jacobs School of Music visiting assistant professor and collaborative pianist Liang-yu Wang will join Belgian guest cellist Thomas Landschoot in two concerts to present Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano, including five sonatas and three variations. President and CEO of the Curtis Institute, violist Roberto Díaz, and collaborative pianist Kwan Yi will perform a guest recital at the IU Jacobs School of Music Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m. in Auer Hall. The program will include three Brahms sonatas for viola and piano (Op. 120, No. 1 and 2; No. 1 in G Major, arranged by Csaba Erdéli).
