IU Jacobs School of Music to host Musical Ear conference

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sept. 17, 2009

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Music Theory Department at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music will host a one-day conference titled "The Musical Ear" Sept. 26.

The unique conference will be devoted exclusively to issues of ear training and aural skills. Invited speakers are Elizabeth Aaron (Mannes College), Gary Karpinski (University of Massachusetts at Amherst) and Nancy Rogers (Florida State University). The conference will conclude with a panel discussion featuring the three invited speakers and Jacobs Associate Dean for Instruction Mary Wennerstrom.

"The Musical Ear conference is a first for Indiana University, a day-long symposium devoted to how we hear and process music, and how we can better train others to do so," said Kyle Adams, Jacobs assistant professor of music theory and conference program chair.

"Although the conference is targeted at professional musicians and music professors, all are welcome and encouraged to attend."
