Background:
Hailed as "a pianist who delves deeply and tellingly into the music she performs" (Washington Post), Yael Weiss is a frequent soloist with major orchestras, including the Seattle Symphony, Prague Chamber Orchestra, and Jerusalem Symphony. She has performed numerous recitals in major venues such as Alice Tully Hall, the Kennedy Center and Wigmore Hall, and is a laureate of the Naumburg International Piano Competition and the Kosciuszko Chopin Competition, as well as recipient of the Presser Award.
Ms. Weiss also tours worldwide as a founding member of the piano trio, Sequenza, with violinist Mark Kaplan and cellist Clancy Newman. A selection featuring Sequenza was chosen for the 2003 "Best of St. Paul Sunday" CD. Weiss is a frequent guest at festivals such as Marlboro, Ravinia, Caramoor, Parry Sound, Seattle Chamber Music Festival, and the City of London Festival, and has collaborated with eminent artists including Midori, Ha-Na Chang, David Shifrin, and the Brentano, Borromeo and lark String Quartets.
Yael Weiss records for Koch International Classics; her CD featuring Schumann solo piano works was released in 2006. Additional recordings are due for release on both Koch and Bridge Records. Weiss was the founder and Artistic Director of the Hersher Foundation Chamber Music Series in Bridgeport, CT, from 1999-2003.
Yael Weiss previously served on the faculty at UC Santa Barbara. She has presented masterclasses for universities throughout the United States and in Europe, and has served on several competition juries. Her teachers have included Leon Fleisher and Richard Goode.
