Charles Schmidt taught instrumental music in the public schools of New York. He has published more than 30 articles in refereed journals in music education and allied fields, and he is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Research in Music Education and the Southeastern Journal of Music Education.

Professor Schmidt's research interests focus on the social psychology of music and individual music instruction.
