Background:

John Poole received his Fellowship Diploma of the Royal College of Organists from Balliol College at Oxford University in 1955. He served as the conductor of BBC Symphony Chorus, 1968-1974, director of the BBC Singers, 1972-1989, music director of the Groupe Vocal de France, 1990-1995, and chief guest conductor of BBC Singers from 1990-1993.

Mr. Poole founded the Acadèmie Internationale in Parthenay, France. He regularly conducts choral and orchestral concerts with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and other choirs and orchestras in Britain and Europe, New Zealand, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Mr. Poole is a committed advocate of new music and is regularly involved in commissioning new works. He has recorded for BBC, EMI Classics, Sony Classics, BMG/RCA Victor, and others.
