Internationally acclaimed Canadian hornist Jeff Nelsen's eclectic career comprises a true cross-section of the music industry. He is equally successful in both classical and contemporary genres and in the roles of both musician and mentor. Professor Nelsen is best known for his years with Canadian Brass (2000 - 2004) during which he performed hundreds of quintet recitals all over the world, and was featured with numerous symphony orchestras including those of Atlanta, Baltimore, Detroit, Houston, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Rotterdam, Seattle, and St. Louis. Jeff has held positions in the Montreal (1994 - 1995), Vancouver (1997 - 2000), and Winnipeg (1993) Symphony Orchestras and most recently performed in the horn sections of the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, and National Symphony.
Nelsen has performed on Broadway, and toured with popular entertainers including Michael Bolton and Barry Manilow. He has recorded extensively on labels such as Sony, Warner, Blue Note, London/Decca, Disney, Summit Records and C.B.C. Records. Intensely active as a soloist, chamber musician, and clinician, Mr. Nelsen has appeared as musician and mentor at numerous international music festival engagements, including Ravinia, Tanglewood, Blossom, Music Academy of the West, Banff, Las Vegas, Sewanee, and St. Barthlélemy.
Jeff has been on faculty at the Universities of Toronto, British Columbia, Victoria, and McGill University in Montreal. Mr. Nelsen is a Yamaha Performing Artist and Clinician. He has recurring articles in the magazines for the International Horn Society and the British Horn Society and his debut publication, "Fearless Auditioning" is due for release in 2007.
