The former principal clarinet of the Israel Radio Orchestra, Eli Eban was invited by Zubin Mehta to join the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, where he performed and recorded all the major orchestral repertoire under Abbado, Barenboim, Bernstein, Dohnanyi, Mehta, Maazel, Levine, Masur, Solti, and others.
Professor Eban's solo appearances include the Israel Philharmonic, English Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Academica of the Salzburg Mozarteum, and the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra. He has been a participant at the Marlboro Music Festival and guest artist with Alexander, Audubon, St. Petersburg, Ying, and Tel Aviv string quartets on major artist series and broadcasts worldwide.
He is a former visiting professor at the Eastman School of Music. Currently, he is principal clarinetist for the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, a faculty member of the Sarasota Festival, and is principal clarinet for the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra (summers).
Professor Eban has made solo recordings on the Meridian, Crystal, and Saphir labels.
His former students have won orchestral positions in Israel, Singapore, South Africa, Poland, Indianapolis, Louisville, Toledo, New Mexico, the New World Symphony, and in the premiere military bands in Washington, D.C.
