J. Peter Burkholder

J. Peter Burkholder's research interests include 20th-century music, Charles Ives, American music, musical borrowing, and musical meaning and analysis.
He is author of Charles Ives: The Ideas Behind the Music and All Made of Tunes: Charles Ives and the Uses of Musical Borrowing. He is editor of Charles Ives and His World, and co-editor of Charles Ives and the Classical Tradition.
He has articles in The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians second edition, Journal of the American Musicological Society, Journal of Musicology, 19th-Century Music, Musical Quarterly, Music Theory Spectrum, College Music Symposium, Music Library Association Notes, and others. His teaching publications include Study and Listening Guide for A History of Western Music and Norton Anthology of Western Music.
He has written liner notes for Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, Centaur, and others. Professor Burkholder has received the Alfred Einstein Award from the American Musicological Society, Irving Lowens Award from the Society for American Music, and an ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award. He has received the Danforth, Rockefeller, and American Council of Learned Societies Fellowships.
He is the president of the American Musicological Society, president of The Charles Ives Society, and past board member of the American Musicological Society and the College Music Society.
