Background:

Gretchen Horlacher is a former faculty member of the University of California-Riverside and the University of California-Santa Barbara. She is currently the secretary for the Society for Music Theory and has studied piano with Malcolm Bilson.

Professor Horlacher has a special interest in the study of rhythm and meter; her recent work deals with the music of Stravinsky and Steve Reich. She is a recipient of the Howard Fellowship; the Prix d'excellence from the École de Musique in Fontainebleau, France; and she received a research fellowship from the Paul Sacher Foundation in Basel, Switzerland, to study Stravinsky's manuscripts.

Professor Horlacher has published articles and reviews in Music Theory Spectrum, Journal of Music Theory, Intégral, Music Theory Online, and Mitteilungen der Paul Sacher Stiftung.
