IU Jacobs School of Music hosts annual Symposium of Research in Music Theory

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Graduate Theory Association (GTA) at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music will host its annual Symposium of Research in Music Theory this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26 and 27, at the school.

This year's symposium is titled "This is Your Brain on Music Theory" and will feature a number of perspectives on the topic of music and cognition. It will feature keynote talks by Robert Gjerdingen (Northwestern University) and Lawrence Zbikowski (University of Chicago) as well as invited talks by Marianne Kielian-Gilbert, Vasili Byros, Eric Isaacson and Robert Hatten (all of Indiana University) and Elizabeth Margulis (University of Arkansas). Additionally, a number of visiting scholars will present submitted papers.

"We are proud to be hosting a conference centered on this exciting topic," said GTA President and Conference Chair Garrett Michaelsen. "Our speakers are some of the foremost thinkers in this area and will provide a fascinating look at the ways we perceive, categorize and conceptualize music."
