Students of Pacifica Quartet -- IU Jacobs School quartet-in-residence -- to present community chamber music series

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 22, 2013

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Student chamber ensembles studying with the Pacifica Quartet -- the quartet-in-residence at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music -- will present a series of eight free community concerts in Bloomington from Monday, March 25, through Saturday, April 20. See the schedule below.

Coached by the Grammy Award-winning Pacifica Quartet, the students will showcase their talents and virtuosity beyond the walls of the Jacobs School through their passion for chamber music.

"With these performing opportunities for our student chamber groups out in the community alongside their coachings, master classes and performances at the Jacobs School, we hope to prepare our students for careers as musicians in the 21st century," said Pacifica. "In the changing musical climate we live in, we need to arm them with tools to not only reach their full potential as artists, but to also communicate with a variety of audiences and communities."

Local organizations expressed their eagerness to have chamber music performances on site.

Two gallery music series have been created to explore the chamber music repertoire among visual arts exhibits. Ivy Tech John Waldron Arts Center will host "Chamber Music Mondays" in its intimate Miller Gallery, and IU's Grunwald Gallery of Art will host "Saturday Afternoon String Quartets."

The student ensembles will give private concerts for residents of Bloomington's Meadowood Retirement Community and Redbud Hills Retirement Residence.

All programs will feature a variety of student string chamber ensembles coached by the Pacifica Quartet presenting a diverse selection of chamber music repertoire.

The quartet currently coaches 33 string chamber groups at the Jacobs School, many of which will perform in these community concerts.
