Lorna Dallas “Back Home Again” in Bloomington

Dallas, Lorna

Soprano Lorna Dallas, Jacobs alumna and musical theatre star, will give a free and open-to-the-public performance of The Great American Songbook on Sunday, November 5, at 3pm in the IU Auditorium. She considers the concert, titled "Back Home Again in Indiana" and featuring pianist Jason Carr, as her gift to the university and the community. Although the event is free, Dallas has requested that voluntary donations go to the Jacobs School of Music Dean's Fund, and donation envelopes will be available in the program, as well as on lobby tables.

Dallas studied voice at IU with the late Virginia MacWatters and followed in her sister Ellen's footsteps as a featured soloist with the famed Belles of Indiana. After singing with the Metropolitan Opera in New York, she starred on the stage in London's West End, and embarked on her remarkably successful global career.

She has performed in the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall and Buckingham Palace, and has dined at the White House. Now London-based, her BBC series, Lorna Dallas…My Musical World, was an instant hit. She recently starred in the acclaimed film United 93, about the tragic events of 9/11, and is exploring new territory through her film career.

Dallas is also presenting a master class, "The Voice Isn't Everything," for IU Theatre students, on November 3, at 3:30pm in Recital Hall. The following evening, she will be the featured speaker and performer at the IU Foundation's Colloquium for Women.
